Nuclear Suppliers Group problems

Well, there’s a deadlock at the Nuclear Supplier’s Group over reprocessing and enrichment technology transfers to India, with the opposing nations accusing the supporting nations of putting commercial interests above the interests of the non-proliferation regime.Well,I’ve something to say about it.

I believe the 123 deal holds no meaning if there is no transfer of reprocessing and enrichment technology to India, because that’s the only way we can progress to plutonium and our abundant resources of thorium in the 3-generation plan for power generation put forth by Homi Bhabha.Understandably,Plutonium is a far better fuel for fission bombs, but if the safeguards put in place by the IAEA are supposedly so strong that they can block proliferation, the opposing nations have no locus standi to oppose the transfer of the technology.I believe it’s better we sit in darkness of electricity shortage than sacrifice our 3 stage plan.

Plus,vis-a-vis China and it’s links of blatant proliferation to the biggest nuclear black market in Pakistan despite ratifying the NPT,India has a clear and unblemished record of non-proliferation though it has no obligations to do so.Still,China will sit in judgement and can blockĀ  the passage of the nuclear deal at the NSG because the NSG takes decisions only unanimously, and a single dissenting voice is enough.Isn’t that strange and so obviously biased?Hope the Indian diplomacy can work through these difficulties come the meeting in September.
